Pain, Inflammation & Spasm

Pain is an unpleasant sensation which gives an alarming signal to a person that some damage has been occurred in his/her body.

Inflammation : Swelling which occurs due to tissue injury in particular part of the body and may lead to redness, heat generation and temporary loss of function of that particular part.

Mediators of Pain & Inflammation:Prostaglandins (PGs) are the main chemical mediators, released by injured tissue, which cause pain & inflammation.

THE TREATMENT

The treatment involves:

Analgesic : A drug that relieves pain is known as an Analgesic.

Anti-Inflammatory : A drug that acts against inflammation is known as an Anti-inflammatory agent.

Anti-Pyretic : A drug that relieves fever.

These 3 categories are broadly classified as NSAIDs -

NSAIDs - Non Sterioidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs i.e. these are not steroidal in nature.

An NSAID has all 3 actions of Analgesic, Anti-inflammatory & Anti-pyretic.
